A body pulled from the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland has been identified as a missing Maryland father who vanished after traveling to the city for the Steelers-Browns game last week.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Phoenix Phillips, 24, of Perryville, Maryland. Phillips had been missing since Friday morning, hours after attending the game with a friend.

Cleveland police spokesperson Sgt. Freddy Diaz previously told Fox News Digital that the body was recovered shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday and taken to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy.

The medical examiner's online records did not list a cause or manner of death Wednesday evening.

Detectives had been searching the area where Phillips was last seen, looking for surveillance video and following tips that could help determine what happened after he became separated from his friend, Diaz told the station.

Members of Phillips' family had traveled to Cleveland to search for him, while Cleveland Missing helped provide fliers and other assistance, Colon previously told Fox News Digital.

It remains unclear what happened to Phillips after he became separated from his friend or how he ended up in the Cuyahoga River.
